There are superstitions about Friday, superstitions about the number 13-which together seem to create the fear of Friday the 13th. Unsurprisingly, we are not exactly sure of the historical evidence as to how Friday the 13th became synonymous with bad luck and superstition. There are many theories that date back to earlier centuries, but most of them have been completely debunked. Bad luck of Friday the 13th is probably the most well known superstition allover the world, but not the only.
Superstitions vary from country to country and are usually related to things that are thought to bring us either good luck or bad luck.
In many English speaking countries, the following actions are believed to lead to bad luck:
- walking under a ladder
- breaking a mirror
- seeing a black cat
- opening an umbrella indoors
