1st January – the first day of the year when using the Gregorian calendar

  Balloons – small inflatable decorations for parties
 Banquet – a large formal meal that many people attend as a party
  Buffet – a meal where people select their own food while standing up
 Calendar – a written record of the days and months in each year
 Celebration – a happy gathering of people to mark a special occasion
  Champagne – a white wine with bubbles in it that is drunk a celebrations
  Clock – a device that measure the passing of time
  Confetti – small pieces of colored paper that are thrown in the air during certain celebrations

  Crowd – a large group of people
  Custom – a specific action that is always done in the same way and at the same time
  Dance – to move in time with music
  Decorations – the items used to make something more beatify or nice to look at
  Eve – the day before another day on which something happens
  Family – the group of people that you are related to
  Fancy dress – the clothes worn at a party were people dress-up as something different
  Fireworks – a small explosive that produces bright colors that people use a celebrations
  Gathering – a group of people that come together for the same occasion
  Gregorian calendar – the most widely used dating system that started in Europe
  Hangover – the after effects of drinking too much alcohol
  Hogmanay – the traditional Scottish name for New Year
  Holiday – a time when you do not need to work
  Host/hostess – the person who gives and organizes a party
  Invitation – a request for someone to attend an event or party
  Invite – to ask someone to attended an event or party
  Lunar New Year – the new year under the Chinese calendar
  Midnight – the time in the middle of the night when one day ends and another day starts
  Music – the pleasant sound that people listen to for enjoyment

  Reveler – a person who is attending a party
  Sale – the act of selling items for a reduced price
  Songkran – the traditional Thai new year that is celebrated in April
  Stroke of midnight – the precise moment when a clock goes from 11.59pm to 12.00am
  Toast – to celebrate an occasion or person by drinking something
  Tradition – the actions and situations that are always done the same way each year
  Vow – to promise to do something
